who knows of mabinogi?


both are great games in the sense of allowing you to develop your character how you want it and offering you a ton of features.


Maplestory recently started it's Chaos event update.

in part one, the hero classes (and one that for some reason gets hero treatment) got a major update. Aran's got their skills switched around, the combo system got an upgrade, and power increased. Evan got it's power nerfed but it's speed is unlike any other mage class in the game. heck...in some situations you could say that it is only trumped by thieves. and dualblade...got nerfed and new skills (yeah, overpowered class nerf! nerf mechanic next!)

part two will add the profession and trait systems. for those of whom who knew maple about 6 months ago, there was this skill called maker that you could -gasp- MAKE stuff with. about 3 months ago, metal ores, and jewel ores vanished and stopped dropping. and maker ceased to be functional. Why? So they could make a new and improved maker system!

Professions include
Blacksmith-armor: Helm, Upper, lower, shoes, and hands. Weapons, shields...and ANDRIODS. Andriods are basically a second character that follows you around. what does it do?...not sure yet. but it looks cool and TALKS...sometimes

Jeweler-Accessories: Belt, earrings, rings, shoulderpads (which strangely normally look like armor but it's not), and...other...shiny...things...that I can't think of right now.

Alchemist-potions for health, mana, transformation (even GIANT monsters or just a Giant potion. go stomp on some monsters!). They make the crystals that all classes need.

And of course you get 2 professions, but once you pick one of the above you've gotta pick one that matches what you need to have to get a source of materials. Mining for jewelers and Blacksmith. And herbalism for alchemists


Part 3 with have a crappy broken PvP system. If you want to enjoy this place at all, make a dualblade, spend 20-35 dollars unlocking all its skills (at the proper times...remember the skill-books only last for 90 days) then enter. Because Dualblades can't lose except by bad luck


Part 4...the better part of PvP. Ice knight. Basically this is Juggernaut. 1 player gets to play as the Ice Knight with epic skills of icy destruction and their health is boosted to unusually high levels. only 2 rules. 1. if your the juggernaut, destroy and conquer. 2. if not, run and hide or team up and kill the beast.


part 5 is a mystery. even to KMS. wonder what it'll be?

Now to talk about the other game. Mabinogi.


Max...cheated...and got me to play. How'd he do this? He uttered the words "permanent dragon pet and mount."

So I chose to play the game. And I have Throam'sil (cost me 17 dollars but so worth it.)

in this game you can be elf, giant, or human...I suggest you be a human to start with because it's neutral playing ground as in all games. plus you'll be able to unlock a second character slot later on as a human that you can't with giants and elves (which I didn't know till after I made my character).

You start by choosing an age between 10 and 17. and you gain a year every week.

The way the game works is you get AP and you unlock skills. You gain AP by lvling up, doing quests, and by aging up. Every week you gain 5 ap points...unless you're 25 years old. at which point the game stops giving out freebies. and you technically don't look like you age anymore after that either.

Anyway, so you get 75 AP in 15 weeks just by picking an age 10 character.

There's archery, swords, axes, lances, blunt weapons, magic, and a very interesting class called alchemist. The alchemist skills use something called a cylinder...which is similar to a gun/cannon thing...kinda...it's magic, and it's gun like. so yeah.

You train your skills until your happy. if you think your training is going really slow, then you have a very fun choice to make. Rebirth. go from your old age back to when you were little...er. but keep all your skills!

*shrugs* it's a 3d game. fun to explore. fun skills to use. the dragon pet is what did it for me (and it's only there until the 12th).

yah got fishing, crafting, fighting, pvp (that works...though don't challenge max. he's really a hundred and something years old and likes to kill kids), music (I can play songs from chrono trigger and bleach! what can you play?), exploring, flying mounts, Bears that will maul you to death if you so much as look at them (steer clear of the white one. Holy or not, it will half-kill you...a fate worse than death, eat your face as it kills you, and kill you again when you finally regain consciousness).


So try it out!

warning, Mabinogi seems to be built more to try and tempt people to spend money. but there are so many things you can do without money...try and resist! (even though I failed and bought Throam'sil...But it's a dragon. and it's white. and it is awesome...YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TEMPTATION IS!)

Okay, so I'm playing 3 nexon games right now. and have played a couple other MMO's recently...


Mabinogi
ULTIMATE CUSTIMIZATION! It's a really fun game, but they lack...warnings on certain actions, and their way to get money is a bit more cruel to the player.

There are 3 races
Giant
Human
Elf

each have...specific traits and abilities. If you are brand new to the game, I suggest making a human to start off, just to figure out what you like being able to do and such. I also say this because if you make a human first you can have 2 characters for free.

yeah, that's the first downside...Nexon only gives you ONE free character, and then you have to do quests to get a second (but it's only avaliable to humans and it forces you to pick either elf or giant.)

Elves can't wear heavy armor, are faster, can't dual wield weapons, and of course are really good at the magic and archer SKILLS (again there is no class system) and also...they get pretty tiny when they are young.
Giant's can carry other players (which I say is awesome), are huge, and can wield 2-handed weapons 1 handed in order to either dual wield ANOTHER one or a shield.
Humans have like no restrictions.

you can also buy pets (which have a limited amount of time able to be summoned a day...and you can PLAY as them (unfortunately that counts as time summoned).

it uses a inventory system that I haaaate...items take up a certain amount of space and it's like playing tetris to get all your crap into it >.<

lots of areas to check out, huge world...making money is a bit hard though they have a new commerce system I need to look into.

if I had to rate this I'd give it a 7.5 due to all the customization available. the -2.5 is due to hard gold farming, Nexon and their greed, inventory, and pet time-limit






Maplestory

Thought I might as well make a review for this one as well...though most of us have played it.

There are 2 sides to maplestory. 1-quests and exploration and 2-community. Most complaints about the game come from the first half, and nexon is working on making it better by creating new content...but the problem remains the same.

You WILL be grinding for quests, items, gold, and exp...ALOT.

for a 2-d game however I have to give it to Nexon for creating such flashy skills, though my complaint is that some classes don't have enough variety in their attacks...for example aran uses his triple swing combo over and over again...

the enviroment created by Nexon is...or was very relaxing where it was an animated chatbox basically most of the time, people use to not mind just sitting around and talking for hours on the game. However recently all the Maplestory's around the world have been suffering the same problem...Hackers...so of course *shrugs* bad rep.

also, being a nexon game...you're gonna want NX...you don't NEED it. It's just very tempting to get things that cost NX at some point.

overl all I'd give the game a 6. but only if you play leisurely. don't expect it to be entertaining playing for 4+ hours straight.



Dragon Nest
I'm only lvl 18...so I can't say I have a huge amount of experience with the game...

I can however say that the art is beautiful, the action is cool, the jokes are funny and good for just about all ages (even some...creepy ones...that'd probably make Met laugh), the class stories are good (and continuous so far XD), skills are cool and (so far) no NX truely needed. you definitely need a 2 button mouse for certain classes...like archer, for one specific. Also, this a gender-class game >.< Males basically pick between Tank (mercenary/paladin), Healer (priest), or Swordsman (...warrior). Female characters are Archers (acrobat based or weapon based), or the sorceress (elements or the forces of gravity)

so far i'd give it an 9.


King of Kings III
...Interesting PvP based game. It's obviously still in the works and I have absolutely no idea why it is referred to as III. I found the gameplay enjoyable...but confusing at times...mostly due to translation errors
LOTS OF CHOICES AS TO WHAT TO BECOME...

3 base classes (warrior, cleric, mage) with 3 subclasses that have 3 subclasses on top of that.

interesting and somewhat easy game to play, but I'd want it to develop some more before I play again. 8

Yay MMO topic.
Anyway, I've been playing City of Heroes (Anyone remember this game? Yeah, it's still around.)
Mostly because my friends have been playing it, and the character creator is actually really extensive. It's free to play as well.

I'm also going to play Guild Wars 2 when that comes out. I've already got it preordered.

Well, I started playing AQW again, if anyone's interested in that.

TERA Online now has a trail, so I've been playing that a lot. It's really fantastic.

I know I've been gone from the forums for awhile now, but I thought I'd say something.

I play Diablo 3 some and I'm thinking about looking for a new f2p mmo, if anyone wants to play something with me.

Lloydles and I discovered a new game recently. It's called Elsword. They have 5 classes so far, premade characters but you can get different clothes and maybe hair later. Gender is set, however.

There's a magical knight named Elsword, male, 'youngest soldier of the Red Guard', weilds a huge sword.
There's a mage named Ashia, female, uses all-elemental magical spells to fight.
There's a male named Raven who uses a gun in one hand and a sword in another, skills allow you to follow the path of using whichever one you wanna use.
There's a girl named Eve, a queen of a race called Nasoids, a robot that uses little droids to fight for her.
Lastly, there's a girl named Rena, basically a Mercedes-type class (for those of you who don't read my story or play maplestory, Mercedes is an elf who uses a bow to fight)

There's another character coming out, though. Also female.

They all have their own paths to follow that gives you new sets of skills. The battle system is centered around Dungeons, which you can go into alone or with friends and you can set a difficulty and which items should be dropped (only if you are leading the party, though). There's also a PVP, which we haven't tried yet, and a PVE, which is us against the world. There are quests, but they can all be pretty much done in the dungeons.

There is a download involved, but it's smaller than maplestory or mabinogi. You also don't have to go to the website to login and start. I'd give this game a 7, because of lack of character variety and the keys were a bit hard to get at first (I dunno, maybe that's just me)

Well in terms of F2P MMOs, Guild Wars 2 is coming out soon. I played the beta weekend for that, and it was awesome.

I played Guild Wars (the first one) and I've done my research to know its actually buy to play not free to play.
But elsword does look pretty good, just give me your info and let me know how often you are on and I'll probably play it

I play, well more like *played*, but I can get it back easily. I need to find something to change my mind from Castlevania : Harmony of Dissonance. That and I'm bored these days.

Edit: Nat, Magic knight is one of Elsword Job advancement.

does anyone here have an account in aqw? I need to kill a void dragon (80 thousand health bluh) in order to finish the northlands quest chain, but nobody seems to be interested. also, i tried to kill it once. it hits with damage over 200. the more people that help, the better.

anyone want to help me out? you might have to catch up on the quest chain first, i'm not sure.

I'm way to far back on the quest chain i think. I haven't played in so long and my guy is sooo low level. If I could I would just be a healer and heal you, but yeah.
